Workshop Description
Step into the enchanting world of the Speulderbos, one of the oldest and most mystical forests in the Netherlands. Famous for its ancient, twisted beech trees—often referred to as the Dancing Trees—this magical woodland offers endless photographic opportunities. During autumn, the forest comes alive with rich golden colours, vibrant leaves, soft light, and, if we’re lucky, an ethereal layer of morning mist that transforms the landscape into a fairytale scene.
Throughout this workshop, you’ll learn how to create compelling woodland photographs by mastering composition, perspective, and the creative use of natural light. We’ll explore techniques for simplifying busy forest scenes, using leading lines, balancing light and shadow, and isolating details that reveal the unique character of this remarkable forest. Whether you’re photographing sweeping woodland scenes or intimate details hidden among the trees, you’ll discover how to tell a story through your images.
One of the highlights of the Speulderbos is its ever-changing atmosphere. Morning mist, shafts of sunlight filtering through the canopy, and the twisted shapes of the ancient beech trees create endless opportunities for artistic and atmospheric photography. I’ll guide you in recognising these moments and translating them into powerful compositions that capture the magic of the forest.
We will also discuss the creative use of photographic filters. Although filters are not required, they can be extremely useful for woodland photography by reducing reflections on wet leaves, enhancing colours, and helping to balance light in challenging conditions. I will demonstrate a range of Kase Filters and explain when and how they can elevate your photography. As an official Kase Filters Ambassador, I’ll be happy to answer any questions about filter techniques and their practical applications.
With personal guidance in a small group, you’ll receive individual advice tailored to your experience level. Together we’ll analyse compositions, camera settings, and creative choices before pressing the shutter. Rather than simply photographing beautiful locations, you’ll learn how to see a landscape and create images with depth, atmosphere, and emotion.
A sturdy tripod is strongly recommended, especially for photographing in low-light conditions or when creating carefully composed images.
Whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner or an experienced landscape photographer, this workshop will inspire you to see the forest in a completely new way and return home with both memorable photographs and valuable new skills.
