Workshop Description
The Opal Coast is one of northern France’s most spectacular coastal landscapes, renowned for its dramatic chalk cliffs, sweeping sandy beaches, rugged rock formations, and constantly changing tides. Throughout the workshop, we’ll explore how to transform these breathtaking seascapes into compelling photographs by developing a strong eye for composition rather than simply capturing a beautiful view.
This workshop focuses on the creative foundations of landscape and seascape photography, with particular attention to composition, perspective, balance, depth, and the creative use of light. You’ll learn how to simplify complex coastal scenes, use leading lines created by the shoreline and rock formations, identify strong foreground elements, and create images that tell a story. Whether photographing expansive coastal panoramas with a wide-angle lens or isolating distant details with a telephoto lens, you’ll discover new ways to interpret this remarkable coastline.
During the workshop, I provide personal guidance tailored to your experience level. Together we’ll analyse locations, discuss camera settings, and refine your compositions before pressing the shutter. Rather than simply taking you to beautiful viewpoints, my goal is to help you understand why a composition works, allowing you to confidently apply these techniques wherever your photographic journey takes you.
We will also discuss the creative use of photographic filters. Although filters are not required, they are invaluable for long-exposure photography, allowing you to create silky water effects, capture movement in the clouds, and balance light during sunrise and sunset. I will demonstrate a range of Kase Filters and explain when and how they can enhance your landscape photography. As an official Kase Filters Ambassador, I’ll be happy to answer any questions about filter techniques and their practical applications.
A sturdy tripod is strongly recommended, as many of the best coastal images rely on precise compositions and longer shutter speeds.
This workshop is suitable for photographers with a wide range of experience, from enthusiastic beginners to advanced photographers. Participants should be familiar with the basic operation of their own camera so that the focus can remain on creativity, technique, and developing a stronger photographic vision.
The workshop date and starting time are determined in consultation with the participants to ensure the best possible light and tidal conditions. Together, we’ll create a tailor-made photography experience that makes the most of this extraordinary coastline.
